Work Description:

"For a time I rest In the grace of the world and am free

— WENDALL BERRY

This meditative project came when I was confronted with the potential death of my husband. I found myself in a liminal space of distracting thoughts which were pulling my life out of focus, as fear played tug of war with hope ( he healed over time). Despite my circumstances, I learned to embrace the present moment to bring my life back in focus. We are always IN the present moment, but seldom FOCUSED on it,” stated James Clear. Water canons, that irrigate the grass, came on as I walked across the pasture. I recognized the cascading water as the compelling photograph instead of the more obvious Rocky Mountain landscape—thus Proving The Best Is In Front Of Me. Seeing the blurred landscape paralleled my own sense of life out of focus.

Bio: Lynda SmithSchick is a photographic artist photographing the natural world from a non-representational perspective as metaphorical expressions of spirit, environmental and social justice concerns. She also composes and hand crafts botanical materials to photograph.

SmithSchick lives and works on the Gulf Coast and in the Midwest.

After graduating from the University of Oklahoma in Interior Design and being certified with the NCIDQ, she had a extensive career practicing commercial and residential Interior Design, before pursuing Photography full time. She’s intrigued with how the principles and elements of design are woven through both interior design and photography.

SmithSchick is a world traveler even camping in a more remote region of Mongolia to photograph. She has yoga and meditation practices and takes walks in nature with her dog, Plush.
